It Has Been Too Long…

Well, it has been much too long since I have posted to the website. I didn’t even post any Christmas or New Years pictures. I will endeavor to do better. I will be adding multiple posts in the next few weeks (mostly adding pictures to the family galleries). In the meantime, let me catch you up a bit on what has been going on around here…

January

The Bates Clan of California took a trip to the east coast to visit my parents. We were there for New Years Day and the baptism of my Godson, Christian. It was a wonderful time. While we were there papa, Tom and I took Casey to his first hockey game. The Bruins lost to the Flyers 1-0. It was post Joe Thornton (he was traded to the San Jose Sharks) so I didn’t expect much from the Bruins. We still had a great time and the seats were excellent! I will post pictures of Casey at the game soon.

February

It was another stellar birthday week for me and by stellar I mean crappy! It wasn’t how I was treated, but for a second year in a row, everyone was sick!!!! Although I do have a superior immune system, even I was not feeling well. We did end up doing a few good things for my birthday, so it was not all bad. Next year I plan on putting up a super sized John Travolta bubble around my house from January until after my birthday next year! I’ll keep everyone well, if it is the last thing I do!!!! 😉

February through March I did double coaching duty. I was the head coach for Quinn’s basketball team (3-4 year olds) and assistant coach for Casey’s basketball team (5-6 year olds). It was a lot of fun, but boy was it a lot of work! Basically, I did basketball every Saturday morning from 9am until 1pm! Both teams were great and I enjoyed every minute of it! I’ll be happy to do it again next year! I will post some basket ball pictures in the coming weeks.

March

March in Northern California normally consists of rain, but this year was CRAZY! We didn’t break any records for the amount of rain, but we did break records for the number of rainy days. We had 39 out of 48 days of rain! Yes, that is more days than there are in March, but the rain spanned through April! There were 25 days of rain in March alone! Last week it did not rain, but there were storm clouds all week! Casey had four TeeBall games and three practices cancelled. 🙁

As you have read, Casey started TeeBall in March. This year he is playing for the local league, which is much more “hard core” than the league we played in last year! I am the manager (head coach) of the team. I have two great assistants that are excellent with the kids. Jenn is our team mom. We also have the best parents ever helping out. It is amazing the parental support we have on the team. I could not do a good job without them!!!

Quinn also started TeeBall. It is not a game situation league, but more of a clinic. We signed him up through the YMCA and he really loves it! BTW, switching back to basketball, Quinn hit the last basket of the season at the buzzer!!! It was awesome! As much as he likes TeeBall, Quinn is a basketball guy!

April

April has been a quiet month. Easter came and went without too much fan fare. I guess we were just all overwhelmed by the grey days! Even with the rain, the Easter Bunny still managed to find our house and hide eggs inside! It was a fun day for the kids!

The week after Easter, Jenn and the kids flew down to Palm Desert to spend spring break with Mimi and Gramps. They played golf, went swimming and took a tram ride to the top of a snowy mountain. I did not have any vacation time to spare, so I was alone for the week. 🙁 I will post pictures of their trip soon.

Legos Have Arrived

The new obsession at our house is Legos! Casey and Quinn cannot get enough of them! The best Legos of all are Star Wars Legos! They are into Star Wars big time! We had family movie night a few weeks ago and let the kids watch the original (A New Hope). They also got a new PS2 game… Lego Star Wars!!!

Bring Your Son and Daughter to Work Day

Juniper Networks fully supports “Bring Your Son and Daughter to Work Day.” They had a full program for the kids that ran from 8:00am until 12:45pm. The keynote speaker was yours truly! I started the day off by talking to the kids (about 50 of them ranging mostly from 8-12 years old) about how Juniper started and what we do at Juniper. My talk lasted for about 25 minutes. It was an interactive talk and when I explained what a router was, I enlisted five of the kids to help me. The kids were very engaged and I got a very good response. It was a nice start of the day (if I do say so myself! 😉 ).

Casey came with me to work that day. He got his own security badge, complete with his picture on it! This was a actual security badge. It wasn’t “turned on,” but it is the same as mine! The kids had group activities, learned about ergonomics, electricity and advertising. They even drew their own Juniper advertisement. I will post Casey’s soon.

I should mention that Casey was walking around holding hands with a nine year old girl!!! I’ll post the picture and tell you more about it in a separate post! We are going to have to keep an eye on this kid!

Final Words…

Time to bring this update to a close. A lot has happened since my last post, but I filled you in on the good bits. I have promissed to post a lot of pictures and I promise to get them up “soon.”

Thanks!

Bill
